What we do

I (along with a great team of creatives) offer an array of services to help professional, amateur, and hobby writers with their work. For those who just want to write for fun or produce a memoir for family and friends, we offer journaling and memoir writing training and development services. For amateur and professional writers we offer advice on self-publishing, book publishers, literary agents, story development, query letters, proposals, and much more. We also offer editing (line and copy) and proofreading services as well as cover design guidance and reader research (i.e., research what readers of your book’s genre are reading and why — and if your book is on the naughty or nice list).

Memoir & Journal Support

$50 per hour

Have you ever wanted to write a memoir? Perhaps you don’t want it published like many celebrities seem to be doing now. But, you want something in writing describing your fascinating life stories so your loved ones can remember you forever in your own words (not theirs). Let me help you draft your stories then you can print copies and give them as holiday gifts. Boom! You are immortal because you are in a book (and the whole world doesn’t have to see your dirty laundry, only your loved ones).

Development Services

$65 per hour

With your voice in mind, I provide feedback on the main elements of your story — plot, character, setting, conflict, theme, and point of view. Together, we will discuss and flush out the story arc and build your outline. This service is available for finished and unfinished manuscripts as well as new creations.

Editing & Proofreading Services

Please see the Editors Freelance Association Price List below

I provide copyediting and proofreading services to all writers regardless of traditional publishing or self-publishing. Services in this category include line editing, copyediting, and proofreading.

Alpha & Beta Reading

Starting at $30 per manuscript, per reader

What do your readers want? That is an easy question when you hire an alpha or beta reader. I have several test readers who will review finished or unfinished manuscripts and provide feedback on what to improve. Alpha readers generally review rough drafts (unfinished works) and help to develop story elements. Beta readers generally review finished manuscripts to fill gaps and give insight to what your average reader (in a particular genre) will think about the work. For the fee, a writer/author can expect to get at least 1,500 words (very likely a lot more) in reader feedback. Essentially, a writer/author is paying an unbiased third party (not a friend or relative, whose opinion might be skewed) to review the writing with fresh eyes.

Research Services (What Are People Reading?)

Starting at $75

What are readers saying about your book? How are readers comparing your book to others in the same genre? Do you want to know what people like or don’t like before finishing your manuscript? Which genre is popular now? These and other questions can be answered with our Readers Research package (basic package includes a review of your ratings on four sites — Goodreads, Amazon, The Story Graph, and BookBub).

Magic Tricks (Little Stuff You Didn’t Realize You Needed To Know)

$50 per hour

Do you know how to draft a query letter or book proposal? Should you copyright your book or trademark your book series name? Should you use a pen name (nom de plume)? Did you know that book cover design color influences a reader to buy the book (or not)? Where can you find a good book cover designer or a book blurb (the descriptive text on the back of the book) writer? Solving these little mysteries could mean the difference between your book becoming a bestseller or one that sits on the shelf, lonely and unread (or worse, remaindered or out-of-print). We can talk you through all these extra bits and bobs of the book industry.

I am really easy to talk to and a great listener!
