It’s not about me. It’s about you & your reader!

I read a lot. I read the good, the bad, and the ugly. I also read the “meh” and the AMAZING. There are so many writers in the world with phenomenal potential who could be one of those amazing writers if they just had the extra oomph. I have that oomph and can share it with you!

I listen. In fact, I am a very good listener. I listen to chatter on book review sites (like Amazon, BookBub, Goodreads). I listen to readers rant about poor writing (mainly grammar and sentence structure), predictable plots, non-relatable characters, and slow/boring story flow. I also listen to the writer and hear what they want to say in their book. This is where I work my magic to get the writer and reader on the same page (pun intended) to create a successful and beautifully written book.

No-one wants their book on the DNF (did not finish) list so I do all I can to help writers polish their works and make them the best they can be. I will always try to be the unemotional voice in emotionally-charged environments. I know your writing is your baby. I know you are emotionally attached to it because you have put your heart and soul into it (possibly some actual blood, sweat, and tears). But I also know that if you want that book to succeed and be bought and read, you will have to look at it from a buyer/reader perspective. That is very hard to do! This is where I come in. I will never tell you that you must do/fix/change anything but I can suggest and advise based on standard writing guidelines, research, analytics, and trends.

About me

My name is BB Brown. I am an award-winning writer with 30 years of experience in journalism, speechwriting, ghostwriting, editing, proofreading, creative writing, and teaching.

I am trained in the Associated Press Stylebook (AP) and the Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS). My formal degrees and professional certificates were earned from University of Maryland, Norwich University, and New York University. I have been trained by the University of Chicago specifically for CMOS.

When I am not reading, editing, mentoring, teaching, and writing, I enjoy millinery (making hats), making stained glass windows, crafting, traveling, and volunteering with non-profits.

I live in Jefferson County, West Virginia, with my trusty old chocolate Labrador, M (she is my faithful advisor and often keeps me out of trouble, similar to M in the James Bond movies). I do most of my work remotely but if you are in the Washington DC, Virginia, Maryland, or West Virginia area I can arrange a meeting in-person.
